Message from the Supervisor

July 29, 2021

Dear Families of New Horizon School:

I hope this message finds you all in good spirits.  Let’s take a moment and bid farewell to the 2020-2021 school year…for it is finally in the rear-view mirror.  This past year was unquestionably the most challenging year that we, collectively, have endured in our lifetimes.  All aspects of our lives were deeply impacted by the pandemic: socially, recreationally, spiritually, vocationally, and academically.

Though there are many who understandably may focus on the darker side of COVID-19, we would like to shine the spotlight on the resilience and drive that was continuously on display from our staff, families, and students throughout this past school year- this is something that we should continue to celebrate.  From learning how to comfortably navigate through the digital world, to withstanding the constant fluctuation between virtual and in-person learning, our combined efforts enabled our students to persevere through these rough waters.  Thankfully, I think it is safe to say that we finally made it to the other side of this pandemic.

Although virtual learning may still have its place in the 2021-2022 school year, we remain hopeful and confident that this upcoming school year will not bear any resemblance to this past school year.  If this summer’s Extended School Year (ESY) was a sign of things to come, then great things are once again on the horizon at our school!

The role that you play in your child's education cannot be underscored enough.  I would also like to emphasize the significance of your position on your child’s IEP Team.  Knowing this, I simply ask that you make every effort to attend your child’s IEP meeting- please contact us if you have not yet received the date/time for your child’s IEP meeting for the 2021-2022 school year.  In addition, I highly encourage you to join the PTO and attend their regular meetings- doing so will help you stay current with the social and fundraising activities that our amazing PTO coordinates throughout the school year.

The excitement for the upcoming school year is brewing.  It is important to know that, as always, our staff will work tirelessly to provide the most appropriate, effective, and safe educational setting for your child.   Finally, please do not ever hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or concerns regarding your child’s education at New Horizon School.

Regards,
